☾ the synopsis

My Savior… Or My Ruin?
One night, and my entire life went up in flames. All because of him. Jafar. As my world burned down around me, he offered me a choice. Walk away with nothing but my freedom… Or rise to his challenge and win my fortune back.
I bargained.
I lost.
Now Jafar owns me, and even as my mind rails against his rules, my body loves the punishments he deals out when I break them.
But a gilded cage is still a prison, I’ll do anything to obtain my freedom.
Even betray the man I’m falling for.

☾ the characters

Jasmine is 25 when she is sold off to Ali – an arranged marriage Jasmine doesn’t want.
So when she has the opportunity to bargain her life away to Jafar she does, not really realizing what it means.
Living in a cage once more – albeit a different one, just so that Ali can’t get to her.
And then there’s Jafar, who knows what she needs much more than she does.
However, Jasmine is a tigress, and she will do what is necessary.

Jafar is a general, and shortly after he learns that Jasmine has been sold off, he stages a coup, successfully executing it and claiming not only the territory that technically belongs to Jasmine, but also Jasmine herself – the woman he’s always wanted.
And then he shows her off – and puts her life in danger.

Ali is a cruel man. When he takes women to his bed, he ruins them inside and out, and his plans for Jasmine are much the same.
Thanks to The Underworld, Ali has an opportunity to get his hands on Jasmine – and so he does.
The risk was calculated, but damn, Ali is bad at math.

☾ the world building

Carver City is where the villains live.
And in the middle, there’s a grey area – or at least, it’s as grey as its ruler Hades will allow it to be.
In Carver City, there’s a constant push and pull of power, and if you aren’t careful, you get sucked right into it.

☾ what i liked about this book

It’s an adult version of Disney’s Descendants – and very kinky.
I like the fact that this universe says f*ck classical Disney pairing and instead gives us Disney villain x Disney hero AUs – this time we have Jafar and Jasmine.
I barely remember much of Twisted – The Untold Story of A Royal Vizir, but as far as I remember, Ali was an a** in that one, too, and so since I like Twisted, I knew I would love this, too.
I am a huge fan of kink club settings, especially when there’s an effort in displaying the consensual elements of a relationship like that.
As for the smut content – you get the CNC you pay for.
I do love the characters, premise and world building a lot.

☾ what i disliked about this book

I’m not a huge fan of domestic abuse in erotica, and I’m not sure how much I like the fact that that mixed with CNC in the story – especially because I forget, when reading CNC, that the first C means consensual, and I felt very sorry for Jasmine to be treated the way she did – not only by her father and Ali, but also by Jafar.
Also I just have to say that I am used to getting way more smut in a book this length, so if you are looking for a quick fix, this might not be it.

☾ should you read this book?

Unless you are a domestic abuse victim, not a fan of CNC or you want a quick erotica fix, you really don’t have an excuse not to read this book.
It was one of the hottest erotic novels I’ve read since Door of Bruises, and if you’ve read my review of that, you will know this comparison speaks volumes.
Desperate Measures might just ruin your childhood, but lets be honest – you read erotica, so you likely already are ruined as it is.
