☾ the synopsis

Rion Ward fought hard to be free of the Irish mob life. Now, as the co-owner of Boston’s hottest aphrodisiac club, he’s traded crime for the ultimate sexual fantasy. But when the “good girl” from his past walks through Lick’s doors, he discovers that his unconsummated hunger for her never abated. Widowed for two years from a man who felt that anything besides the missionary position was dirty, Harper Shaw is ready to move on. The first step to feeling alive again is sex. Hot, dirty, black-out-from-orgasm sex. And who better to provide it than the brooding, sexy, tatted bad boy-turned-man she’s known for years? Rion, however, has one stipulation: He’ll be hers only for one night. One night to explore her every fantasy. One night to push her limits. One night to introduce her to a passion that makes both doubt if it will be enough…

☾ the characters

Harper Shaw comes to Lick in search of two things: sex and Rion Ward.
And once she finds the latter, the sex follows.
Harper has lived a relatively tame live with her late husband, but now that he passed, she knows she wants more – but what exactly, she doesn’t know.
Luckily, when Rion allows her to be with him for a night, she has the opportunity to find out.

Rion Ward has his guard up. As a former mob member and now owner of a club that relies on anonymity, he can’t afford any slip-ups.
But he does slip up, when the girl he loved and sacrificed everything for shows up at his club.
Rion wants to preserve her innocence, but once he allows her to sta at the club for the night, he quickly discovers all the things that Harper Shaw is, and isn’t.
Most importantly, she isn’t his – yet.

☾ the world building

Leather District, Boston, USA.
Amidst the doing of multiple mobs, the ex-mob-members have opened Boston’s most sought after club, “Lick.”
What appears to be a normal club at first is rumored to be much more than that, and indeed Lick caters to all kinds of exquisite tastes in sex – as long as it’s not illegal or immoral.

☾ what i liked about this book

I like vulnerable men, and Rion Ward is definitely one of them, even if he – understandably – hides it under a fassade of toughed up ex-mob guy who wants nothing more than some peace and quiet.
I enjoyed that for once, this is a BDSM centered erotica where the guy realizes his mistakes and pursues the woman – in a way that is socially acceptable.
I am always hesitant to read Mafia/Mob romances (there’s plenty of those on Wattpad, but those just make me roll my eyes) because of the underlying themes of immoral things and violence that don’t really do anything for me, and I was glad to see that those things played second fiddle in this book.
It was refreshing.
As for the sex…
It was hot, especially the voyeurism, which I feel like can get real awkward to read about.
I also like that Harper isn’t a virgin, and that the consent, which was in capitals for this novella, allowed her to explore her sexuality. The book also discusses gaslighting and slutshaming, which is very important, especially for those readers who are just getting into the genre or the lifestyle (BDSM), because both seem to be some sort of taboo topic.

☾ what i disliked about this book

I can’t pinpoint anything I disliked about this novella!

☾ should you read this book?

If you are in the mood for a quick erotica fix that is pretty accurate to what most BDSM experiences are like and isn’t some sort of fantasy while displaying a healthy BDSM relationship with nicely developed characters, definitely go for it!
It’s a bit tamer than what I woul usually read, and I think it’s great for people who are looking to start reading BDSM themed erotica.
