☾ the synopsis
When you can’t change time, but you can’t go forward, what is left?
Hermione learns how to be the protagonist of her own story.
A Tom Riddle x Hermione Granger fanfiction in which Hermione involuntarily travels back in time, meets the mysterious Tom Riddle and falls in love with him.
☾ the characters
Hermione Granger receives a mysterious birthday gift for her 20th birthday and travels back in time to meet none other than Albus Dumbledore in the year 1944 – in which Tom Riddle is attending his last year at Hogwarts.
By having her pose as a new and previously homeschooled student, Dumbledore hopes to use Hermione to get closer to Tom and his already forming ideas surrounding the overthrow of the wizarding world as it has been known.
The 18-year-old Tom Riddle is infuriated with Hermione when they first meet, but he soon begins to understand that they want the same things, and so he can’t help himself falling for her.
☾ the magic system
Old rules that have been previously established in the Harry Potter universe still go – more or less.
Thanks to Tom Riddle, this book features a lot more dark and complex magic that the author made up themselves.
☾ the world building
Most of the story plays at Hogwarts, Scotland in the year 19944, however, the story ends in 2019.
There are multiple time jumps and the author invented the Island of Iðunna for her own purposes.
☾ what i liked about this book
This book is Harry Potter – but for adults.
It’s a lot darker and sinister and even though it’s a fanfiction, the characters, plot and the world are being developed in a sense that makes it feel very professional and thoroughly thought through.
I really liked the fact that CocoArtist managed to incorperate the fanfiction aspects into the Harry Potter universe in such a way that made it feel natural.
In true fanfiction style, this story doesn’t lack in romance and plenty steamy scenes.
☾ what i didn’t like about this book
I don’t dislike anything about this story given the fact that it is fanfiction and that somebody put 12 years of work into it to complete it.
I’m sure if you took it apart meticulously, you would find some faults, but really, who does that???
☾ should you read this book?
If you like fanfiction and you feel nostalgic about Harry Potter while also being curious about possible origin stories for Tom Riddle and refusing to accept Harry Potter and the Cursed Child as canon, yes.
If none of those things apply to you, like they (mostly) do to me, you should read this anyway, because it’s a masterpiece and I am still lacking the words to describe how much I love this.
